Visiting The Farm
U-PICKING or PICK-YOUR-OWN APPLES:
This is by-far our most popular way to visit the farm. Usually beginning the first week of September, but due to an early crop this year we started in early August. Folks can come to the farm and pick their own organic apples from our trees. This is the perfect activity for everyone who wants to get out and see a working orchard.
Each u-picking visit comes with a tour of the orchard, during which, one of the farmers (Torrey or Lucy), describes the processes that make Gabriel Farm a certified organic orchard. There is no better way to begin to understand the differences between organic agriculture and conventional/industrial agriculture, than to go on this tour.
U-Picking Appointments: We ask that you make an appointment to visit the farm. We have so much to do during harvest season, that in order for us to be prepared properly for your visit, we must know ahead of time (at least a day). The best way to do this is to determine a time that works well for you, and then call or email us to see if it works for our schedule—most often it does. The best days for u-picking are Monday & Tuesday mornings, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Saturday works for us as well, save that one of us is usually at a farmer’s market that day.
U-Picking Prices: The price for u-picking this year (2007) will be $2 per pound of apples. We also sell our other products (Asian pears, jams, juice, lavender etc…) in our farm store. We encourage folks to budget a minimum of a $20 purchase for their u-picking visit.
GROUP or SCHOOL TOURS:
We offer tours for groups as well. We have had elementary school classes to large tour busses here to the farm. The best thing about our farm tour is that we are able to tailor it to address the specific topic of interest for your group. Please call or email us to schedule a time for your group to come visit...
